What better way to plan a vacation to Central America’s Guatemala, then to visit during a special event or holiday? 2012 will be the premier year to visit or revisit Guatemala, as it is the Year of the Maya—when the Mayan calendar will start over! Every Guatemalan holiday in 2012 is almost guaranteed to be even a little more special because of the 2012 calendar.

The Mayan calendar does not end on December 21, 2012; it actually renews and starts at 0.0.0.0.1 again. The renewal date coincides with a winter solstice where the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in 26,000 years. The beginning of the new cycle could actually mean great advancements in our civilizations.
