Daily Tours: Neighboring Towns of Antigua

Let’s take a beautiful journey to discover the outskirts of Antigua and the different surrounding villages that hold rich history and traditions. This tour includes, first, a visit to San Felipe de Jesus. This colonial village includes has some pretty amazing picture-taking opportunities for traditional and modern Mayan culture and architecture.

Some highlights of San Felipe de Jesus are:

  • A religious figure of which the greatest generation in Guatemala has kept—El Señor Sepultado
  • Jocotenango and its renowned colorful church
  • Ciudad Vieja, where the city of Santiago de Guatemala was first officially founded

2012 - The Year of the Maya

The new Guatemalan president will take office January 2012. It’s no secret that this is an important year for Guatemala tourism, because of the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012. And it has been said that Otto Perez Molina considers Guatemala tourism one of the first tasks of the new government.

Perez Molina stated: “We believe that 2012 is an opportunity for Guatemala to become one of the favorite destinations of the world. For that we will work on promoting and improving security conditions.”
