The new Guatemalan president will take office January 2012. It’s no secret that this is an important year for Guatemala tourism, because of the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012. And it has been said that Otto Perez Molina considers Guatemala tourism one of the first tasks of the new government.

Perez Molina stated: “We believe that 2012 is an opportunity for Guatemala to become one of the favorite destinations of the world. For that we will work on promoting and improving security conditions.”

Festival of the Sea Turtle in Monterrico, Guatemala Nov 18-20

Festival of the Sea turtle or Festival de la Tortuga is an incredible cause-driven event that takes place every year on the Pacific coast of Guatemala in Monterrico and nearby Hawaii. The turtle nesting season runs from July to December, so the Festival comes into swing just as the turtles hatch and are released into the Pacific ocean.
